The Essential 40 is a portfolio of forty common stocks and is an elegant approach to modern day investing. As today’s popular stock market indices do not accurately represent the companies that are essential to the American way of life, the Essential 40 portfolio seeks to offer investors a contemporary as well as diversified representation of the U.S. economy. The rules based methodology utilizes a qualitative and quantitative approach based upon which companies are irreplaceable and are also too essential to fail in the U.S. economy. The final portfolio is equally weighted, and typically rebalanced annually on the second calendar Monday of January.
